You are currently viewing Lecture: Time Perceptions and Body Images in the Contemporary Spiritual Discourse

Many Cultures share the yearning to a far ideal past – the lost paradise. What is special in the past-time perception of New Age Spirituality, especially in its Jewish/Israeli version? How does this spiritual discourse narrates the Jewish and human history?
Answers to these questions were presented in a lecture at the conference of the Israeli Anthropological Association. These theses also appear in studies published by Ruah-Midbar Shapiro.
The thesis repeats findings from the study case described in the main chapter of Ruah-Midbar’s PhD dissertation (see here), and partially in the article that dealt with the narratives of the past in the Israeli-Jewish New Age discourse (see here).
The lecture, under the title “Past Narratives and Body Images in New Age Discourse”, took place in a session chaired by Shirley Bar Lev, on the topic “Globalization of the Healthy / Ill Body: The Renewed Discourse about the Body”, at the Israeli Anthropological Association’s Annual Conference in Sede Boker, 19-20 May 2004.
